A 63 Years Old Female Patient’s Recovery from Chronic Neck Pain and Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV)

Oct 17, 2025

A middle-aged female presented to our clinic with chronic neck pain and persistent dizziness that had been affecting her quality of life for several years. She reported a history of multiple rear-end motor vehicle accidents, as well as a rollover crash during adolescence.

Previous chiropractic treatments had not been as effective, and her symptoms continued to persist, especially during stressful periods or when looking upward.

Her goals for care included reducing pain and dizziness, improving mobility, and restoring comfort in daily activities.

Chief Complaints

  • Ongoing neck pain and stiffness, often described as aching, dull, and occasionally sharp.
  • Dizziness caused by BPPV and triggered by looking upwards
  • Difficulty performing household and work-related tasks, decreased concentration, and increased fatigue.

Medical & Lifestyle History

  • 2 motor vehicle accidents both rear-end collisions and one rollover incident in adolescence.
  • Documented history of BPPV (right ear)
  • Significant past surgical history that includes L5–S1 fusion
  • Spends about 8 hours per day sitting at work

Examination Findings

Initial chiropractic and range of motion examinations revealed restrictions in the cervical spine, with pain rated around 5/10 at its worst.

Cervical Spine Range of Motion:

  • Flexion: 45° (normal 50°)
  • Extension: 50° (normal 60°)
  • Lateral Flexion Left: 35° (normal 45°)
  • Lateral Flexion Right: 40° (normal 45°)
  • Rotation Left: 60° (normal 80°)
  • Rotation Right: 60° (normal 80°)

Customized Care Plan

The patient began a structured corrective program. Her individualized treatment plan included:

  • 14 Chiropractic Adjustments targeted towards the cervical and lumbar spine.
  • 5 Sessions of Shockwave Therapy to stimulate soft tissue repair and breakdown scar tissues in the neck and upper back.
  • Workstation evaluation and ergonomic corrections
  • 2 Re-exams to measure progress and guide treatment adjustments.

Progress and Results

Following consistent care, the patient reported excellent improvement, with scores of 90% overall improvement since beginning treatment. She noted significant reductions in both neck and lower back pain.

Improved ability to move her head without discomfort, and better overall energy throughout the day. To be fair, brief episodes of dizziness flare up under heavy stress.

Final Outcome

By the end of the initial corrective phase, the patient expressed satisfaction with her progress, reporting that she felt more relaxed, more alert and definitely in less pain.

She signed up for maintenance visits to prevent flare-ups, and support ongoing spinal health. If you’re experiencing chronic neck pain, dizziness, or stiffness, Take Advantage of our $97 new patient special which includes a full consultation, X-rays, and a customized corrective care plan designed for your unique needs.
